Job Description – Shuttle/Photographer/Support Guide

Oregon River Experiences runs half day to nine day whitewater raft trips on ten rivers in Oregon and Idaho. We employ guides who possess the maturity, warmth, integrity, leadership skills, work ethic and whitewater boating skills necessary to conduct top-notch river trips.

We have openings for 1-2 full time shuttle/photographer/support guides. Most work will be as a shuttle driver/photographer on the Upper Clackamas, North Santiam & Deschutes River, for day trips. Other work may be available.

Season length varies, but typically runs from early or mid-May through mid to late-September, and occasionally into early to mid-October. Peak season for shuttle/support guides is Memorial Day-Labor Day.

We think that being on the river is one of the best jobs you can imagine. You get to be outside in beautiful natural settings and share fun and adventure with a variety of interesting people. But river guiding also involves plenty of hard work and long hours. The work is fun and rewarding, but it can be physically and mentally demanding as well.

Qualifications

At least 21+ years of age

Clean driving record and valid drivers license

Current First Aid and CPR certifications

Ability to drive 15 passenger vans, trailers and ability to back up trailer (prior experience preferred)

Personable and friendly demeanor, and an enthusiasm for sharing the outdoors with guests

Strong work ethic and the willingness to be a team player

Ability to walk short distances on uneven/slippery ground & occasional heavy lifting

Ability to take quality action photos and use computers to transfer photos

Oregon Food Handlers License

Job Duties

General responsibilities

Conduct high quality, safe river trips in a support role

Treat guests and fellow O.R.E. employees with courtesy and respect

Contribute to a positive, supportive team atmosphere

Arrive to work promptly as scheduled

Drive company vehicles and trailers safely

Use digital SLR camera’s, computers and other electronic devices for photography purposes

Keep vehicles clean and detect mechanical problems

Promote sales of future trips as appropriate

Comply with terms of employment contract & conform to company policies as described in the Employment Agreement and the O.R.E. Guide’s Handbook

Prepare deli lunch’s as needed for full day trips with assistance following safe food handling practices

Specific Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following

Engage guests in friendly conversation both on and off the river

Drive company vehicles safely. 15-passanger vans with trailers

Use digital SLR camera’s, computers and other electronic devices for photography purposes

Prepare deli lunch’s as needed for full day trips

Pack equipment carefully, and unpack, clean and put away all trip gear after trip

Participate in any on-river guide meetings, as well as post-trip guide debriefings

On day trips, weave local natural or cultural history information into discussion in your vehicle rides

Work Schedule

Seasonal, early to mid-May through mid to late-September, occasionally beyond. Our greatest need is from mid-June through Labor Day weekend. Those seeking full-time work must be prepared to work all weeks of this peak season. Those seeking part-time work must be available most weeks of this peak season including holiday weekends. 5 days per week, or more if interested.

Compensation

Based on type of trip (1/2 day, full day) and river location.

$90$215 per trip

Employment Agreement
