Traffic Signal company seeking Pothole Truck Operator

Traffic signal construction company is looking for a pothole truck operator. This position will support underground utility locating and construction activities. The Pothole Operator is responsible for performing precise utility exposure (“potholing”) using approved soft-digging methods, such as hydro-vac excavation, air-vacuum systems, or hand-digging. This role plays a critical part in safely uncovering and verifying underground utilities to support mapping, construction planning, and damage prevention efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform safe and accurate potholing to expose underground utilities for verification and measurement.

Operate hydro-vac, air-vac, or other soft-digging equipment following company and OSHA standards.

Assist utility locators, survey/GIS personnel, and field technicians during utility verification work.

Read and interpret utility markings, construction plans, and jobsite instructions.

Maintain clean, organized, and well-functioning equipment and tools.

Document findings such as utility depth, type, and location (photos, notes, measurements).

Follow all safety procedures, traffic control guidelines, and jobsite protocols.

Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients on job progress.

Perform daily vehicle inspections and report any mechanical issues.

Qualifications - Essential:

Previous experience with hydro-vac, soft digging, or construction labor preferred, but not required (training available).

Ability to lift 50+ pounds

Must work outdoors in varying weather conditions for up to 10 hours per day.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Strong attention to safety and detail.

Ability to follow directions, work independently, and stay organized.

Qualifications - Desirable:

2+ years previous experience with hydro-vac, soft digging, or construction labor preferred, but not required (training available).

Ability to lift 50+ pounds

Must work outdoors in varying weather conditions for up to 12 hours per day.

CDL

Strong attention to safety and detail.

Ability to follow directions, work independently, and stay organized.

Wage Range is $28-$30 an hour
